Let’s get MAD!

Recently, about 80% of Metro Manila was again inundated with floods. And again, thousands of families were affected. Heartbreaking stories of loss of lives and property, inspiring accounts of bravery and survival again made the headlines.

I saw this resilience firsthand when QNET got involved in the very first emergency relief distribution efforts by air to families after Typhoon Ondoy.

And again when I personally saw to the distribution of relief goods from funds donated by our incredibly MAD Qi Philippines staff in Cagayan de Oro after Typhoon Sendong literally washed out entire neigborhoods.

A spirit of resilience is no longer enough though. The recent flooding has triggered a rising wave for discontent and calls to the government to do much more.

In the preaching in church last Sunday, a different call was made. A call to make the change.

Many would say it’s impossible for ordinary people to do so. Well, another heart wrenching event that rocked our nation over a week ago proved otherwise.

The tragic and untimely death of a man barely known to Filipinos suddenly brought to everyone’s consciousness the truth that it only takes one man or woman to spark a change. Secretary Jesse Robredo heard the call to be MAD during the People’s Power revolution, turned his back on a promising corporate career to go into public service. His death brought his principled life and selfless example to the fore and caused the entire nation to deeply mourn its loss.

It also deeply provoked me and others like me to seek ways to follow his lead.

We can all make a difference. There is nothing like the power of one harnessing the power of the many to effect change from the bottom up. If we all did a little daily, we can do a lot!

Change starts IN us, WITH us and THROUGH us. Anyone can be the change we want to see in our land. I really believe this.

As a practical application, I’ve decided to do 3 simple actions DAILY for 1 month (above and beyond a couple of livelihood projects am developing). My intent is to influence others to do their own simple daily actions.

Here’s what I came up with:

1. Pray for my country.
2. Stop making any complaints (I do have my pet peeves, some traffic-related.)
3.

So the thing is, I need help. Am stuck with number 3. What simple, specific, doable, duplicable action should go on the list? Post your suggestions below, and go MAD with me! The winning entry gets, well, MAD love from me. <3

*M.A.D. Stands for Making a Difference, and is at the heart of our I’m MAD campaign.
