Why our business works for women

What I’m about to tell you is something that I spent 18 years discovering on my own. Network Marketing (NM) changed my life for the better, and I know without a doubt that it can do the same for you!

In 1992, I was a newly single mother, taking shelter with my three young kids in the basement of a missionary couple’s home. As a college dropout, I had no special skills that would earn me more than minimum wage. What I did have, though, was faith that God had a plan for me and my kids.

This belief, coupled with desperation, led me to the amazing world of Network Marketing (NM). It gave me the chance to do what I really needed – to provide for my kids – and what I wanted – to be there for them. Basically, it transformed our lives!

With every milestone that I progressively achieved, the scope of my belief of a wonderful future proportionately grew to include that of other people, especially women.

NM works so well for women, and here’s why:

1. We determine our store hours.

NM offers plenty of incredible opportunities for personal and financial freedom. One thing I love about it is that it can be woven into anyone’s life. Women are full-time in every role that they play – be it as a wife, mother, daughter, employer or employee. It’s in our nature to be all-in and see everything that we do as part of who we are.

Because we determine the store hours of our NM business, we get to weave these store hours into the other things we do. It will mean making room for the entrepreneur role, adjusting our daily schedules to fit our business in, but hey, we’re great multi-taskers anyway!

My youngest child was 3 when I started. The flexible hours let me plan my day around my kids’ schedules, so that I could still be a full-time mum and at the same time, work towards fulfilling my dream, which brings us to the next point.

2. We can make a difference to others.

The success that NM has brought me has also inspired my life’s motto: Transform yourself, transform the world! For me, the most fulfilling – and the most important – part of this profession is being able to help others. NM empowers you to do just that.

And we see the results all around. We hear it, feel it and live it on a daily basis, in ourselves and in many others. How many other professions give you that?

3. Now this is genuine girl power.

I find that the personal development aspect of NM is so amazing, because it really boosts the confidence of women. There are plenty of women in leadership in direct selling, yet many of us still don’t recognise our potential. One survey found that 75% of women deal with insecurity in one way or another.

I believe that men and women are equal, and I don’t mean this as a confrontational feminist statement. We have different strengths that are best when used in synergy with each other. So why not work together?

4. The 21st century is ours for the taking.

The biggest economic drivers across the world today are women, which means that the majority of the new income will be earned by women! The best part of this is that this economic emancipation will lead to a better world for children, for families and for communities.

So get ready, ladies! Seize this opportunity to take hold of your destiny, celebrate your femininity, and be the best YOU! It’s going to be an amazing time for women, so let it be an amazing time for you!

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I checked out yours — it’s great to see a young man like yourself taking the initiative to better his life, and help friends in the process. What you say about the importance of dreams is true. The best experiences start with a dream, and there is always a new one to be dreamt. If you or your female friends have any questions, they are most welcome to post them here.

The best way to prove that our business works is to show by example. As the late venerable Mahatma Gandhi put it so perfectly, “Be the change you want to see in the world.”

    Dear Donna,
having been a part of this incredible journey for over 3 years, I have only positive things to say about it.

This business model has inherently what it takes to make a man while making the money. I have grown by leaps and bounds – personally and financially. Today, I have it in me, thanks to the experiences and learning from this journey, to start any venture fearlessly and take on the world; a feat I would dare not dream of with my corporate backing of the past.

As a woman, for me and for many of my women colleagues, it has brought out the best and has given me whats of utmost importance to us – self worth and self respect.

For me this business and to follow the likes of you, has been a spiritual journey of self-discovery. I have found myself and I am exploring more of myself by surrendering to you and your success.

You are such a source of inspiration, courage and humility. I aspire to become someone like you, who can empower and inspire people and women in particular to explore their true worth and potential.

I am greatly indebted to you for being my ‘silent mentor’

Thank you so much for that wonderful post. I love to hear about how my fellow Network Marketers are doing, and to know that there are strong, fearless women like you who are making a name for themselves, well, that’s the icing on the cake.

This blog is a great way for us to stay connected, so thanks to technology, I look forward to being more than a ‘silent’ mentor. What has been your favourite experience in NM since you started your business?

My favorite experience so far on this journey of Network Marketing for over 3 years has been – the inspired look on many women to whom I am presenting; the look which says, wow! I like to be where you are and feel the way you feel about yourself; the look of hope; the look which conveys, if you did it I can too…

And for me, personally it has been a liberating experience when I switched from mothering my team and limiting them to empowering them to be the best they can. My ‘I’ dissolving in their glory, growth and success. This is my real journey; my “karma yoga”.

Hi Donna. I just thought of share how I was inspired by you when i started NWM back in 2004 in Ethiopia. If there was one reason that gave me confident to go ahead and achieve the short “term success” I had in NWM was only you. Even today, in the middle of confusion to start or not to start all over again, your success in this industry is like a reminder that it can be done. But I have to admit that, I am still in the process of collecting my courage “waiting for the right time” to start all over again. Some of the shift a NWM has brought to me as a women is that, Confident in myself, working towards my personal developments on a daily bases, not settling for mediocrity…etc are some to mention. Thank you for being the change catalyst in many of us Donna, lots of love

Hi Hanna. Change starts with yourself, and you’re doing a great job with that. One of the good things about this business is that it’s never too late to start, or start over. If you would like to share your story or the tough challenges you face, this is a great platform for us to stay connected. All the best to you.

I think that even if you have accomplished something, there is always another dream to realise. I also believe that leaders are the example, not the exception. If I am leading a team of people, I owe it to them and to myself to keep raising the bar, so they will be moved to push themselves.

I hope that answers your question.
